The Anishinaabe Kweok Research Network was started in 2006 by Sheila Cote-Meek, Susan Manitowabi and Caroline Recollet. The first meeting was held in June 2006 at Fielding Memorial Park, Sudbury, Ontario, CA. Twenty-five Aboriginal women from the area came together to discuss the need for such a network and develop a vision for the network.

Purpose:
The purpose of the Anishinaabe Kweok Research Network is to advocate, and support Aboriginal women who are dedicated in advancing the capacity of Aboriginal women's health and social research. Through research that prioritizes the health and social issues of Aboriginal peoples, the network can influence policy makers at all levels of ogvernance.

Objectives:
The Anishinaabe Kweok Research Network will:
1) Create an environment that supports new Aboriginal women researchers such as students and new graduates int he social and health fields;

2) Follow ethical guidelines and principles that retain Aboriginal worldviews, and the Seven Grandfather Teachings with the guidance of elders;

3) Network and bridge relationships by providing information and resource persons to the broader community, and other research associates, including encouraging representation on other Aboriginal committees/boards;

4) Maintain a strong communicaation system between members and community; and

5) Work towards establishing an Anishinaabe Kweok Health and Social Research Centre of Excellence.
